RO: De departe cea mai așteptată vacanță de anul acesta a fost în Zakynthos, Grecia. După lunile reci de aici din Bucovina, visam să stăm la soare șapte zile. Să ne bucurăm de plajă, de nisip, de timp petrecut împreună și să vizităm una-alta. Și le-am bifat pe toate cu succes.
EN: By far the most awaited vacation of the year was in Zakynthos, Greece. After the cold months here in Bucovina, we dreamed of staying in the sun for seven days. To enjoy the beach, the sand, the time we spent together, and visit a bunch of cool places. And surprisingly, we did everything we set out to do.
RO: Zbor Cluj – Zakynthos
La fel ca anul trecut, am apelat la Cocktail Holidays, o agenție de turism pentru vacanța noastră în Zakynthos. Am zburat cu un avion Tarom, de la Cluj-Napoca până pe insulă. Inițial, zborurile noastre au fost programate la prânz, dar cu o săptămână înainte de vacanță am fost anunțați că s-a schimbat orarul de zbor, dar și datele concediului nostru.
Sincer, am vrut să renunțăm la această vacanță, pentru că zborul spre Zakynthos era noaptea, la fel și zborul de întoarcere, fix când fetele ar fi trebuit să doarmă. Până la urmă, am zis că asta nu se petrece zi de zi și că vom încerca să ne adaptăm din mers. Și a fost mai bine decât ne-am așteptat. Și dacă la dus fetele nu au dormit deloc în timpul zborului, la întoarcere au dormit atât în aeroport, cât și în avion.
EN: Flight Cluj – Zakynthos
Like last year, we turned to Cocktail Holidays, a travel agency, for our vacation in Zakynthos. We flew with a Tarom plane from Cluj-Napoca to the island.
Initially our flights were scheduled for lunch, but a week before the holiday we were notified that the flight schedule had changed, as well as the dates of our vacation. Honestly, we wanted to give up on this holiday, because the flight to Zakynthos was at night, as well as the return flight, just when the girls should have slept.
Eventually we told ourselves that this was not happening every day and that we would try to adapt as we went along. And it was better than we expected. The girls did not sleep at all during the flight to Zakynthos, they slept both at the airport and on the plane when we flew back home.
RO: Cazare Zakynthos
Am știut că vrem să ne cazăm la un hotel cu rating bun, să avem demipensiune, să fie aproape de plajă și cât mai aproape de aeroport, având în vedere ora târzie la care am aterizat în Zakynthos. Așa că ni s-a părut că hotelul Marelen este varianta potrivită pentru noi.
Hotelul se află în stațiunea Kalamaki, foarte aproape de Kalamaki Beach (cam la 3 minute distanță), o plajă recomandată pentru familiile cu copii.
RO: Cum a fost la hotelul Marelen, Zakynthos
Complexul hotelier este destul de mare. Noi am optat pentru un apartament cu două camere. Ni s-a făcut curat în cameră în fiecare zi, iar personalul este foarte amabil.
În ultima zi de sejur, pentru că avionul nostru decola la ora 22:00 spre Cluj-Napoca, am hotărât să facem late check-out. Asta a însemnat să ne decazăm și să ne cazăm într-o altă cameră, pentru care am plătit 100 de euro, cam mult am spune, având în vedere că am stat în ea doar câteva ore. Plus că era o cameră surprinzător de mică, cu chiuveta de baie în cameră.
La acest hotel sunt două piscine pentru copii. Una micuță, dar cealaltă are tobogane și tot felul de nebunii. Totuși, piscina mare pentru juniori este deschisă doar patru ore pe zi, de la 12:00 la 16:00. O recomand copiilor mai măricei și chiar adulților mai slim 🙂
Mai este și un loc de joacă pentru copii, dar e tare neîngrijit. Și, la fel, e deschis doar câteva ore pe zi.
EN: Accommodation in Zakynthos
We knew we wanted to stay at a well-rated hotel, have half board, be close to the beach and as close to the airport as possible, given the late hour we landed in Zakynthos. So we thought that the Marelen Hotel is the right option for us.
The hotel is located in Kalamaki resort, very close to Kalamaki Beach (about 3 minutes away), a beach recommended for families with children.
EN: How it was at the Marelen Hotel, Zakynthos
The hotel complex is quite large. We opted for a two-room apartment. Our apartment was cleaned every day and the staff was very friendly.
On the last day of our stay, because our plane took off at 22:00 to Cluj-Napoca, we decided to do a late check-out. That meant we got out and moved into another room for which we paid 100 euro. I would say a lot, considering that we only stayed in it for a few hours. Plus it was a surprisingly small room with the bathroom sink inside the room, on the hallway.
There are two children’s pools at this hotel. One is small, but the other has slides and all sorts of crazy things. However, the bigger pool is only open four hours a day, from 12:00 until 16:00. We recommend it to older children and maybe to slim adults 🙂
There is also a playground for children, but it is very untidy. And also, it’s only open a few hours a day.
RO: Unde mănânci în Zakynthos
La hotelul Marelen unde am fost cazați, mâncarea a fost ok, cu mici excepții. Au fost câteva preparate foarte sărate sau prăjite, dar erau și feluri de mâncare gătite la cuptor, destul de apetisante. Micul dejun a fost același în fiecare zi, dar destul de variat.
Pentru mezina familiei, care are acum un an și o lună, am avut mâncare la borcănașe, dar i-am mai oferit și de la restaurant broccoli, conopidă, omletă, orez cu lapte, pepene galben. Puteam să luăm și prânzul aici, contracost – la pool bar, dar noi am ales să încercăm câteva taverne din apropiere.
Există și scaune de masă pentru copii, dar nu au centuri. Așa că noi am preferat să o ținem pe Ilinca în căruciorul ei, ca să nu riscăm să cadă din scaun.
La prânz, am mâncat foarte bine la The Family Restaurant și la Giorgia Restaurant, ambele în Kalamaki. În Gerakas, am ajuns la o tavernă autentică: Taverna Triodi, unde, la fel, am mâncat foarte bine.
Nu recomandăm restaurantul Kakamaki Taverna, care este fix pe plajă. Porțiile de mâncare au fost foarte mici și nu erau deloc gustoase.
EN: Where to eat in Zakynthos
At the Marelen Hotel where we were staying, the food was ok, with a few exceptions. There were some very salty or fried dishes, but there were also dishes cooked in the oven, quite appetizing. Breakfast was the same every day, but quite varied.
For the smallest member of our family, who is a year and a month old, we had food in jars, but we also offered her broccoli, cauliflower, omelet, rice pudding, and melon from the restaurant. We could have lunch here for a fee, but we chose to try a few taverns nearby.
There are also high chairs for children, but with no belts. So we preferred to keep Ilinca in her stroller, so as not to risk falling off her chair.
At lunch, we ate very well at The Family Restaurant and Giorgia Restaurant, both in Kalamaki. In Gerakas, we arrived at an authentic tavern: Taverna Triodi, where we also ate very well. We do not recommend the Kakamaki Taverna restaurant, which is set on the beach in Kalamaki. The food portions were very small and not tasty at all.
RO: Cum este stațiunea Kalamaki, Zakynthos
Deși stațiunea este foarte aproape de aeroportul din Zakynthos, cam la 5 minute, nu ni s-a părut deranjant să tot auzim avioanele care decolau sau aterizau.
Ba mai mult, făcusem o obsesie în primele zile să filmăm sau să fotografiem avioanele care survolau plaja Kalamaki. Trebuie să menționez aici că aeroportul este închis între orele 24:00 și 06:00, pentru ca broaștele țestoase care și-au depus ouăle pe plajă să nu fie deranjate de zgomot.
De altfel, stațiunea este foarte îngrijită. Sunt multe taverne cu note bune pe Tripadvisor, dar și alte hoteluri sau pensiuni foarte drăguțe.
Când ne-am făcut research-ul pentru această vacanță, găsisem câteva hoteluri foarte drăguțe și în Laganas. Dar se pare că stațiunea e mai mult recomandată adolescenților, nu familiilor cu copii. Așa ni s-a părut și nouă când am trecut prin zonă cu mașina într-o după-amiază. Era împânzită de tineri, unii pe scutere, alții pe ATV-uri.
EN: Kalamaki resort, Zakynthos
Although the resort is very close to the airport in Zakynthos, about 5 minutes away, we did not find it annoying to hear the planes taking off or landing. Moreover, we had become obsessed in the early days with filming or photographing airplanes flying over Kalamaki Beach. I have to mention here that the airport is closed between 24:00 and 06:00, so that the turtles that laid their eggs on the beach are not disturbed by the noise.
In fact, the resort is very well maintained. There are many taverns with good ratings on Tripadvisor, as well as other very nice hotels or guesthouses.
When we did our research for this holiday, we found some very nice hotels in Laganas as well. But it seems that this resort is more recommended for teenagers, not for families with children. It was the same for us when we drove through the area one afternoon. It was full of young people, some on scooters, others on ATVs.
RO: Vremea în Zakynthos
Din documentarea noastră, lunile mai-iunie și septembrie ar fi potrivite pentru a vizita insula, dar și pentru a face plajă. Pe perioada sejurului nostru, a fost mult mai cald decât ne-am așteptat. Au fost cam 27-28 de grade Celsius la umbră. Doar în prima zi a fost înnorat, dar a fost foarte plăcut chiar și așa.

From our research, the months of May-June and September would be suitable for visiting the island, but also for sunbathing. During our stay, it was much warmer than we expected. It was about 27-28 degrees Celsius in the shade. It was only cloudy on the first day, but it was very pleasant even so.
RO: Transport Zakynthos – cu mașina
De la aeroport la hotel și invers am avut un transfer privat, pentru care am plătit 60 de euro. Ne-am bucurat să vedem că avem și scaune de mașină pentru fete, chiar dacă drumul a durat cinci minute.
Însă ca să ne plimbăm pe insulă, lucru pe care l-am făcut în ultimele noastre trei zile din sejur, am închiriat o mașină. Am ales un Fiat Doblo cu șapte locuri de la Auto Traffic Rentals, pentru că suntem mulți și avem o tonă de chestii de cărat după noi: cărucior, geantă de plajă cu de toate, jucării de nisip, jucării pentru mașină.
Nu ni s-a părut că este dificil să închiriezi mașină în Zakynthos, ba chiar am avut și scaun rear facing pentru Ilinca. De altfel, o condiție esențială de la care nu ne abatem niciodată este ca fetele să stea în scaunele lor, indiferent că vorbim de mașinile noastre, ale bunicilor sau despre mașinile închiriate.
RO: Transport Zakynthos – cu autobuzul
Însă insula se poate vizita și cu autobuzul sau cu tururile ghidate cu vaporul. Autobuzele locale acoperă rute către aproape toate destinațiile de pe insulă, în special către cele mai turistice locuri precum Laganas.
Stația centrală de autobuz este situată în orașul Zakynthos (Zante Town), dar există stații de autobuz pe toată insula. Despre traseul și programul acestor autobuze, puteți găsi aici mai multe informații.
EN: Transport Zakynthos – by car
From the airport to the hotel and vice versa wevhad a private transfer, for which we paid 60 euros. We were glad to see that we also had car seats for the girls, even though the journey took five minutes.
But in order to visit the island, which we did in our last three days of our stay, we rented a car. We chose a Fiat Doblo with seven seats from Auto Traffic Rentals, because there are many of us and we have a ton of things to carry with us: stroller, beach bag with everything, sand toys, car toys.
We didn’t find it difficult to rent a car in Zakynthos, we even had a rear facing seat for Ilinca. In fact, an essential condition that we never deviate from is that girls sit in their seats, whether we are talking about our cars, their grandparents’ cars or the rented cars.
EN: Transport Zakynthos – by bus
But the island can also be visited by bus or you can go on guided tours by boat. Local buses cover routes to almost every destination on the island, especially to the most touristy places like Laganas.
The central bus station is located in Zakynthos Town (Zante Town), but there are bus stops all over the island. You can find more information about the route and schedule of these buses here.
RO: Plaje Zakynthos
Unul dintre motivele pentru care am ales Zakynthos, Grecia ca destinație de vacanță sunt plajele. Tot după plaje ne-am ghidat și când am mers în Creta. Despre vacanța în Creta, am scris aici. E înțesată insula de plaje care mai de care mai frumoase. Unele au nisip fin și intrare lină în apă. Altele au pietre sau sunt amplasate pe stânci. E greu însă să le vezi pe toate într-o săptămână. Iar noi am ales să ajungem doar la cele potrivite pentru copii.
Am făcut plajă pe Kalamaki, Gerakas, Azzuro. Am ajuns și pe plaja Xigia, dar mirosul mi s-a părut foarte greu de suportat. Ar mai fi fost interesant de ajuns și la Porto Limnionas / Porto Roxa. Acestea sunt plaje amplasate pe stânci, cu apa adâncă. Totuși, nu ni s-a părut că este o plajă potrivită pentru copii, așa că am zis pas.
RO: Plaja Navagio
Și dacă tot sunt la capitolul plaje, nu am cum să nu menționez plaja Navagio. O fi ea cea mai cunoscută plajă de pe insulă, cea mai frumoasă și cea care dă bine în poze, dar este și cea mai aglomerată. Iar noi nu am văzut-o 🙂 Din două motive.
În primul rând, pe plajă se ajunge cu vaporul, iar călătoria durează câteva ore. În al doilea rând, aici nu sunt șezlonguri sau terase.
Așa că ne-am gândit că nu merită osteneala să mergem cu fetele, să stăm în soare atâtea ore, doar ca să facem o poză cu oameni în preajmă.
Mai este și varianta să vezi plaja de sus, de pe o stâncă. Inițial am zis că facem acest drum de aproximativ o oră până la Panorama Shipwreck, dar ne-am răzgândit, pentru că asta ar fi însemnat să pierdem mult timp, timp pe care l-am fi putut folosi să stăm cu fetele pe o plajă.
Așa că am renunțat la ideea de a vedea vestita plajă Navagio, cu al ei vas de croazieră eșuat.
EN: Zakynthos Beaches
One of the reasons we chose Zakynthos as a holiday destination is the beaches. The island is full of beautiful beaches. Some have fine sand and smooth entry into the water. Others have stones or are placed on rocks. But it’s hard to see them all in a week. So we chose to reach only those suitable for children.
We went to Kalamaki, Gerakas, Azzuro.
We also reached Xigia beach, but the smell seemed unbearable. It would have been interesting to arrive in Porto Limnionas / Porto Roxa as well. These are rocky beaches with deep water. However, we did not think it was a beach suitable for children, so we took a step back.
EN: Navagio beach
And because I’m still talking about beaches, I have to mention Navagio beach. It may be the most famous beach on the island, the most beautiful and the one that looks good in pictures, but it is also the busiest. And we didn’t see it 🙂 For two reasons.
First of all, the beach can only be reached by boat, and the journey takes several hours.
Second, there are no sunbeds or bars here. So we thought it would not be worth the trouble to go with the girls, to sit in the sun for so many hours, just to take a picture with people around.
There is also the option to see the beach from above, from a big rock. We initially thought we’d take about an hour to the Panorama Shipwreck, but we changed our minds, because that would mean wasting a lot of time, which we could have used to spend with the girls on a beach.
So we gave up on the idea of seeing the famous Navagio beach with its a a cruise ship.
RO: Itinerariu Zakynthos, Grecia
Cred că traseul pe insulă trebuie făcut în funcție de ce anume vrei să faci. Dacă vrei să faci doar plajă, clar ai nevoie de o mașină ca să te deplasezi de la una la alta.
Și dacă vrei să combini plaja cu vizitarea unor obiective, tot ai nevoie de mașină. Sau, așa cum am scris mai sus, poți vizita insula cu autobuzul sau cu vaporul. Sau dacă nu ai copiii cu tine, poți închiria un ATV.
Partea bună este că poți să ajungi dintr-un capăt în celălalt al insulei în aproximativ o oră cu mașina. Drumurile sunt în general bune, deși mai sunt porțiuni cu hârtoape. Totuși, mare atenție la cei cu ATV-uri și scutere! Sunt extraordinar de mulți și nu respectă regulile de circulație.
RO: Ce am vizitat în Zakynthos, Grecia
Noi am vrut să combinăm statul la plajă cu vizitarea unor obiective. Așa că după patru zile în care am lenevit pe plaja Kalamaki, ne-am dus să vizităm Skinari Cape, Askos Stone Park (Volimes), insula Cameo și orașul Zante. Doar le-am menționat, pentru că urmează să vorbesc despre acestea mai pe larg, într-un alt articol.

EN: Zakynthos Itinerary
I think the route on the island has to be done depending on what you want to do here. If you just want to go to the beaches, you clearly need a car to get from one place to another.
And if you want to combine the beach with sightseeing, you still need a car. Or, as I wrote above, you can visit the island by bus or boat. Or if you don’t have kids with you, you can rent an ATV.
The good news is that you can drive from one end of the island to the other in about one hour. The roads are generally good, although there are rough patches here and there. However, pay close attention to those with ATVs and scooters! There are a lot of them and they don’t follow the traffic rules.
EN: What we visited in Zakynthos
We wanted to combine relaxing at the beach with visiting some sights. So after four lazy days on Kalamaki Beach, we went to visit Skinari Cape, Askos Stone Park (Volimes), Cameo Island, Zante. I just mentioned them, because I’m going to talk about them in more detail in another article.
