RO: Nu e o surpriză că în Tirol, Austria găsești tot timpul o puzderie de oameni. Iarnă sau vară, Tirolul are ce să-ți ofere. Găsești mâncare bună, locuri de cazare cochete și atracții pentru toate gusturile și vârstele.
Despre cum am petrecut noi un concediu de vară în Tirol (în Zillertal, mai exact), am povestit deja aici. Și pentru că am promis în articolul precedent că o să revenim cu noi impresii, acum e timpul pentru povestea experienței noastre de iarnă în Tirol.
EN: It’s no surprise that in Tyrol, Austria you always find a bunch of people doing cool stuff. Winter or summer, Tyrol has something to offer – good food, stylish accommodation and attractions for all tastes and ages.
We already wrote about how we spent a summer vacation in Tyrol (in the Zillertal, to be exact), here. And because we promised in the previous article that we would come back with new impressions, now it’s time for the story of our winter experience in Tyrol.
RO: Unde am avut cazare în Tirol iarna – hotel Pachmair
La fel ca în vară, am ales Uderns drept punct de pornire pentru toate aventurile noastre. Doar că acum, în iarnă, ne-am cazat la hotel Pachmair, unde ne-am simțit foarte bine.
Pachmair e un hotel de familie, de patru stele, cu restaurant, piscină exterioară și spa, iar noi le-am încercat pe toate.
Rezervarea am făcut-o prin Booking.com pentru că, surprinzător, a fost mai ieftin decât dacă am fi făcut rezervarea direct la hotel.
Noi am avut o cameră de familie cu un pat dublu, o canapea extensibilă și balcon.
Curat, aranjat, întreținut și – foarte important – liniște. Singura sursă de zgomote din exterior a fost biserica de peste drum, cu ale ei clopote care băteau la oră fixă. Dar asta nu a făcut decât să adauge un pic de farmec întregii experiențe.

Just like in the summer, we chose Uderns as the starting point for all our adventures. Only now, in the winter, we stayed at the Pachmair hotel, where it was more enjoyable than at our previous encounter with a Tyrolean hotel..
Pachmair is a family-run, four-star hotel with a restaurant, outdoor pool and spa, and we tried them all.
We made the reservation through Booking.com because, surprisingly, it was cheaper than if we had booked directly with the hotel.
We had a family room with a double bed, a sofa bed and balcony.
Clean, tidy, well maintained and – very important – quiet. The only source of outside noise was the church across the street, with its bells that tolled at fixed hours. But that only added a bit of charm to the whole experience.
RO: Unde am mâncat în Tirol iarna
Restaurant Pachmair, Uderns
De cele mai multe ori am mâncat chiar la restaurantul hotelului Pachmair. Au program pentru toate cele trei mese principale ale zilei. Bufet suedez pentru dimineață și seară, iar la prânz, a la carte.
De altfel, în prețul plătit pentru cazare am avut și mesele de dimineață și seară incluse. Pot spune că au fost bune și îndestulătoare.
La micul dejun am găsit cam de toate, de la ouă și până la plăcinte cu brânză și tradiționalul ștrudel cu mere. Iar seara aveam la dispoziție meniul și – la alegere din vreo 4-5 variante – felul principal, atât pentru carnivori, cât și pentru vegetarieni.
La prânz, meniul a fost mai… subțirel, în sensul că nu oferea decât câteva feluri de mâncare, gătite însă așa cum trebuie.

Restaurant Pachmair, Uderns
Most of the time we ate right at the Pachmair hotel restaurant, where they have a sch for all three main meals of the day – Swedish buffet for morning and evening, and for lunch, a la carte.
In fact, in the price paid for the accommodation, we also had the morning and evening meals included, and I can say that they were good and sufficient.
At breakfast we found just about everything, from eggs to cheese pies and the traditional apple strudel.
And in the evening we had the Swedish buffet and a choice – from about 4-5 options – for the main course, both for carnivores and for vegetarians.
At lunch, the menu was thinner, in the sense that it only offered a few dishes, but cooked as they should be.
RO: Restaurant Kohlerhof, Fügen
O altă incursiune culinară a fost la restaurant Kohlerhof din Fügen. Acesta se află la 5-10 minute de mers cu mașina din Uderns.
Spre deosebire de Pachmair, Kohlerhof este uriaș – atât hotelul, cât și restaurant. Prețurile sunt mai mari fiindcă e situat chiar lângă stația de plecare a telecabinei Spieljochbahn.
Aici am mâncat șnițel vienez, friptură cu sos de piper și pizza. Toate au fost pregătite extrem de rapid și au fost delicioase.

Another culinary foray was at the Kohlerhof restaurant in Fügen, which is a 5-10 minute drive from Uderns.
Unlike the Pachmair, the Kohlerhof is huge – both the hotel and the restaurant – and the prices are higher because it’s right next to the departure station of the Spieljochbahn cable car.
Here we had the Wiener schnitzel, steak with pepper sauce and pizza – all were prepared extremely quickly (about ten minutes from the time I placed the order to the time the food came to the table) and were delicious.
RO: Cafe Central, Uderns
A treia sursă de hrană a fost o cafenea mică din Uderns – Cafe Central – de unde am luat hamburgeri cu cartofi prăjiți. Nu pentru că ne-am fi dorit neapărat să mâncăm așa ceva, ci pentru că nu aveam unde să mergem la masă în altă parte la ora aceea. Cum am spus și în articolul despre Tirol vara, multe restaurante au program limitat, mai ales la prânz, și am prins închis peste tot, mai puțin aici.
Mâncarea a fost decentă, însă foarte sărată. Asta e o caracteristică obișnuită pentru fast-food în Austria (sau poate am avut noi ghinion de fiecare dată, nu știu).
De menționat că nu am putut plăti cu cardul. Așa că am dat comanda și am mers cam în kilometru pe jos ca să scot bani de la un bancomat și să mă întorc.

The third source of food was a small cafe in Uderns – Cafe Central – where we got hamburgers with fries. Not because we really wanted to eat something like that, but because we had nowhere else to go to eat at that time (as I said in the article about Tyrol in the summer, many restaurants have limited hours, especially at lunch, and this was the only place that was open).
The food was decent, but very salty – a common feature for fast food in Austria (or maybe we were unlucky every time, I don’t know).
It should be noted that I could not pay by card, so I placed the order and walked about a kilometer to withdraw money from an ATM and return.
RO: Ce am vizitat și ce am făcut în Tirol iarna
Uderns, Zillertal
Un sătuc cu mai puțin de 2.000 de locuitori, Uderns a fost pentru noi punctul de plecare perfect pentru toate celelalte atracții din Tirol și Zillertal. Însă și Uderns în sine e cochet și liniștit (mai puțin zona prin care trece șoseaua principală).
Chiar peste drum de hotelul Pachmair este biserica din sat, cu al său turn cu ceas și clopote către bat la oră fixă.
Puțin mai departe se află un teren de golf (pentru cine joacă), iar întregul centru e plin cu căsuțe, pensiuni și hoteluri îngrijite, Toate sunt construite și decorate în stil austriac. De fapt, acesta e și unul dintre motivele pentru care totul pare la locul lui, spre deosebire de România, unde fiecare hotel, casă și bloc încearcă să demonstreze că e mai colorat decât vecinul.
Este și un supermarket Spar, precum și o benzinărie Oil cu spălătorie auto.
EN: What we visited and what we did in Tyrol in winter
Uderns, Zillertal
A village of less than 2,000 inhabitants, Uderns was for us the perfect starting point for all the other attractions in Tyrol and the Zillertal. But Uderns itself is pretty and quiet (except the area through which the main road passes).
Just across the road from the Pachmair Hotel is the village church, with its clock tower and bells that ring at fixed hours.
A little further on is a golf course (for those who play), and the whole center is full of well-kept cottages, guesthouses and hotels – all built and decorated in the Austrian style. In fact, this is one of the reasons why everything seems to be in just the right place, unlike in Romania, where every hotel, house and block tries to prove that it is more colorful than its neighbor.
There is also a Spar supermarket as well as an Oil petrol station with a car wash.
RO: Innsbruck
Capitala Tirolului, Innsbruck e, după părerea mea, un fel de Viena în miniatură. Adică intim, cu străduțe înguste și colorate, parcuri mari și îngrijite. Sunt și destule atracții turistice.
Noi am parcat mașina închiriată într-o parcare publică subterană și am luat-o la pas prin ninsoare către Maria-Theresien Strasse, adică punctul principal al orașului austriac de munte.
Aici sunt cafenele și restaurante de o parte și de alta a străzii pietonale. Iar în centrul ei tronează coloana Sfintei Ana (Annasäule), care datează tocmai din 1703.
EN: Innsbruck
The capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck is, in my opinion, a kind of miniaturized Vienna. That is, intimate, with narrow and colorful streets, large and well-kept parks, and enough tourist attractions.
We parked our rental car in a public underground car park and walked through the snow to Maria-Theresien Strasse, the main point of the Austrian mountain town.
Here there are cafes and restaurants on both sides of the pedestrian street, and in its center stands the column of Saint Anne (Annasäule), which dates from 1703.
RO: Acoperișul de aur
În drumul nostru către Maria-Theresien Strasse am trecut și pe lângă casă cu acoperiș de aur (Goldenes Dachl), una dintre principalele atracții ale orașului.
Terminat în anul 1500, vestitul acoperiș conține nu mai puțin de 2.675 de țigle de cupru aurit. Acestea au fost montate pentru a sărbători căsătoria Împăratului Maximilian I cu Bianca Maria Sforza – împărăteasa Imperiului Roman.
Catedrala din Innsbruck este un alt punct de reper pe care l-am bifat în Innsbruck. Cunoscută și sub numele de Dom zu St. Jakob, catedrala catolică a fost construită în secolul al XVIII-lea pentru a-l omagia pe Sfântul Iacob cel Mare. Reprezintă una dintre cele mai importante construcții baroce din întregul Tirol.
EN: The golden roof
On our way to Maria-Theresien Strasse we also passed the Golden Roof House (Goldenes Dachl), one of the main attractions of the city.
Completed in 1500, the famous roof contains no less than 2,675 gilded copper tiles, installed to celebrate the marriage of Emperor Maximilian I to Bianca Maria Sforza – empress of the Roman Empire.
Innsbruck Cathedral is another landmark we ticked off in Innsbruck. Also known as Dom zu St. Jakob, the Catholic cathedral was built in the 18th century to honor Saint James the Great and is one of the most important Baroque buildings in all of Tyrol.
RO: Palatul Ambras
Ultima (și cea mai lungă) oprire din Innsbruck a fost Palatul Ambras (Schloss Ambras).
Cu o istorie întortocheată care începe tocmai în secolul al X-lea cu o fortificație pierdută a Casei Andechs, Palatul Ambras este, pe scurt, unul dintre cele mai vechi muzee din lume.
Construit în anii 1500 la ordinul Arhiducelui Ferdinand al II-lea, cunoscut drept un mare iubitor de artă, Palatul Ambras a luat naștere ca un cadou pentru Philippine Welser, soția secretă a lui Ferdinand al doilea.
Cea mai frumoasă și impozantă încăpere este Sala Spaniolă, recunoscută drept una dintre cele mai importante lucrări de artă Renascentistă târzie.
Este pur și simplu superbă, iar când am fost noi acolo, eram singuri-singurei, liberi să admirăm în liniște, minute bune în șir, picturile care decorează întreaga sală.
Într-o altă clădire a castelului este colecția “Eroi” – practic prima organizare sistematică din istorie a unor exponate într-un muzeu. Aici găsești zeci de armuri ale luptătorilor medievali, precum și arme ale acelor vremuri.
Asta a fost tot din Innsbruck, însă povestea continuă cu alte destinații.
EN: Ambras Palace
The last (and longest) stop in Innsbruck was the Ambras Palace (Schloss Ambras).
With a twisted history that begins precisely in the 10th century with a lost fortification of the House of Andechs, the Ambras Palace is, in short, one of the oldest museums in the world.
Built in the 1500s on the orders of Archduke Ferdinand II, who was known as a great lover of art, the Ambras Palace was made as a gift to Philippine Welser, the secret wife of Ferdinand II.
The most beautiful and imposing room is the Spanish Room, recognized as one of the most important late Renaissance works of art.
It is simply gorgeous, and when we were there, we were the only ones, free to admire in silence the paintings that decorate the entire hall.
In another building of the castle is the „Heroes” collection – practically the first ever systematic organization of exhibits in a museum. Here you can find dozens of armors of medieval warriors as well as weapons of those times.
That was all from Innsbruck, but the story continues with other destinations.
RO: Rattenberg
În Rattenberg ne-am plimbat pe străduțele înguste la primele ore ale dimineții și am vizitat un atelier de sticlărie, unde am dat peste doi meșteri români (apropo, și la Castelul Ambras am făcut cunoștință cu o româncă angajată acolo).

In Rattenberg we walked through the narrow streets in the early hours of the morning and visited a glass workshop, where we came across two Romanian craftsmen (by the way, at Ambras Castle we also met a Romanian woman employed there).
RO: Hall in Tirol
Un alt orășel numai bun de luat la pas este Hall in Tirol, care e chiar lângă Innsbruck. Aici am pierdut câteva ore bune cu plimbarea și, deși nu am prins o vreme prea bună, ne-a plăcut foarte mult.
Ilinca a dormit în cărucior, legănată pe aleile înguste acoperită cu piatră de sute de ani vechime, iar Melania s-a delectat cu un croissant cu ciocolată, proaspăt și gustos.
EN: Hall in Tirol
Another great little town to take a walk is Hall in Tirol, which is right next to Innsbruck. Here we spent a good few hours walking and, although we didn’t get very good weather, we enjoyed it very much.
Ilinca slept in the stroller, cradled on the narrow alleys covered with hundreds of years old stone, and Melania enjoyed a fresh and tasty chocolate croissant.
RO: Spieljoch
Și pentru că nu puteam să mergem iarna în Tirol fără să ajungem pe o pârtie, am fost cu Melania cu sania pe Spieljoch. Șase kilometri de distracție (și un pic de plictiseală) pe sanie, doar noi doi.
Sania am luat-o de la hotel și am urcat cu telecabina până sus. Sania se poate închiria și de la stația de bază a telecabinei Spieljochbahn din Fügen
Greșeala noastră (de fapt, a mea, că eu am fost adultul responsabil) a fost că ne-am dat cu sania fix a doua zi după ce a nins consistent pe pârtie.
Spun greșeală fiindcă, deși traseul a fost nivelat cu ratrakul, zăpada era încă moale și sania se tot împotmolea.
Chiar și așa, ne-am distrat binișor și am petrecut câteva ore împreună pe zăpadă.
EN: Spieljoch
And because we couldn’t go to Tyrol in winter without hitting a slope, Melania and I went sledding on Spieljoch. Six kilometers of fun (and a bit of boredom) on the sled, just the two of us.
I took the sled from the hotel (but it can also be rented from the base station of the Spieljochbahn cable car in Fügen) and took the cable car up to the top.
Our mistake (actually mine, bec I was the adult in charge) was that we sledded the day after it snowed consistently on the slope.
I say mistake because even though the trail was leveled with the rake, the snow was still soft and the sled kept getting stuck.
Even so, we had a lot of fun and spent a few hours together in the snow.
RO: Winterwanderweg Gerlosstein
Ultimul punct de atracție pe care l-am bifat se numește Winterwanderweg Gerlosstein. O plimbare montană de aproximativ un kilometru, care durează o oră și jumătate în total (dus-întors) și care are ca destinație Zillertaler Almtribunen – un fel de tribună din lemn de unde poți admira Valea Zillertal în toată frumusețea ei.
Nu e un traseu greu, însă noi am prins foarte frig când am ajuns, așa că sfatul meu e să te îmbraci bine, bine. Și copiii la fel.
Le-a prins atât de bine plimbarea asta fetelor noastre, că nu mai voiau să se trezească din somnul de la prânz.
Asta a fost în penultima zi. În ultima zi, am plecat dimineața devreme către München, fiindcă aveam zbor înapoi spre Cluj devreme și voiam să nu pierdem avionul.
Una dintre părțile foarte faine ale aeroportului din München este că zona de predare a mașinilor închiriate e fix lângă zona de intrare în aeroport.
Partea proastă a fost că la oricare companie de închirieri te-ai uita, e scump. Noi am plătit 550 de euro pentru un Ford Kuga pe o perioadă de șase zile.
Cu siguranță ne vom mai întoarce în Tirol iarna când fetele vor fi puțin mai mari, ca să putem merge cu ele la ski pe sutele de kilometri de pârtii de aici. Dat până atunci, rămânem cu amintirile din ultima călătorie aici.
EN: Winterwanderweg Gerlosstein
The last point of interest we checked is called Winterwanderweg Gerlosstein – a mountain walk of about one kilometer, which takes an hour and a half in total (round trip) and which ends at the Zillertaler Almtribunen – a kind of wooden tribune from where you can admire the Zillertal Valley in all its beauty.
It’s not a difficult route, but we got very cold when we arrived, so my advice is to dress well, really well.
Our girls liked this walk so much, and their midday nap was really long!
That was on the penultimate day. On the last day, we left early in the morning for Munich, because we had an early flight back to Cluj and we didn’t want to miss the plane.
One of the really cool parts of Munich airport is that the rental car drop-off area is right next to the airport entrance area.
The bad part was that any rental company you look at, it’s expensive. We paid 550 euros for a Ford Kuga for a period of six days.
We will definitely return to Tyrol in the winter when the girls are a bit older so we can go skiing with them on the hundreds of kilometers of slopes here. Until then, we are left with the memories of the last trip here.
